Slipped Away

The stars align in her favor, for Venus wasn’t in retrograde

She mustered up her courage and put her fears allayed

She ran out the front door of her home with her clothes torn

Ran wild and free into the world that seem so foreign

The blood from her lips dripped and the pain in her bones ached

But she had to leave for everything was at stake

The cold air wrapped her body and bite at her exposed skin

Nothing more painful than that marriage she was in

For no one knew that her husband had a loose hand

Everyone perceived him to be this wonderful man

Running into the cold night, her heart beats like a drum

Her husband right behind her with his shotgun and his rum

Her beauty means nothing for her soul is all that’s left

Her husband not far behind her when the sound of his shotgun blast

Fatigued is killed by his bullet and adrenaline then rushed through her veins

She has nothing more to lose and everything else to gain

Her husband couldn’t keep up and then retrieved for home

Drunk, angry and alone, he realized his wife was gone

The night dragged on and he cuddled with his steel

“She’ll come home when her wounds are healed”

Sorrow takes him to a dark place he has never been before

He loved his wife just didn’t know how to show her

Filled with regret he sobbed and emptiness he hoard

He desperately needed his wife and this he implored

No one to hear or care about what he had to say

Her husband shot himself in the head the very next day
